When you look at this website one of the first and most alarming sights you will come across is the bar that reads as follows: In the last few years 10,000 students have left the Minneapolis public school systems. What causes a student to up and leave a school program? What amount of those 10,000 are then re-enrolled in other programs? In other words how many have not just left a Minneapolis school, but school in total? How is this going to effect future unemployment rates of that demographic… Continue

More details are in the emails. Even if you cannot participate as a leader on the new site yourself, your help in motivating others to apply to lead it would be much appreciated. Terry Lydell is on board with the idea if you are willing to help us by using your podium time. We could discuss some talking points, but essentially it's telling people about the concept/opportunity and letting them know they can lead it or participate on the site! Thoughts?

In the meantime, Chris Stewart, MPS School Board member signed on and asked a question in the "should there be a student member of the school board" forum. Just want you to be aware! This is a good opportunity to have an impact on someone who is voting on MPS matters.

I think one way to get students involved is to spread the word that adults like Stewart are reading what you say and considering it in their work. Thoughts?

Perhaps because I'm personally angry about it, I interpret it to be more about the impacts of 9/11 on our policies. And how the president behaves currently.

"the air my lungs first loved carves craters from my eyes" = for me, the US (esp. when we all came together 9/11 and now where we are)

"pray keep your tongue held tight, or suffer the same fate" = when people speak up, they're fired, accused. We're being recorded w/o permission, etc.

The blood on our black gloves it is none of your concern. = iraq. We hear to just trust in our foreign policy.

I'm not a huge fan, but I do follow them a bit. Irvine HS where they are from about 10 min from where I lived. They used to play at hs lunch!

We've been taking some small steps, yet we know it's time to do some big recruiting. We need to hear from students the best ways to do it.
