Moved here from New Orleans a little over a year ago, after Katrina. Have been involved in public health and social justice work for over seven years now.
Why are you interested in Students Speak Out?
I am familiar with problems in the public school systems; however, they were much more marked where I come from. I am a firm supporter of public schools and like Aristotle, I believe that the state is perpetuated through the education of its citizens. Therefore education is, of necessity, public in nature.

Hey Julie! I am working on the SSO Safety group, and we are focusing on Trust and Bullying in schools. I was curious if you could post some experiences or thoughts about bullying and how we can work to take down the issue in our Minneapolis Public Schools! If you post, you are automatically entered to win a BRAND NEW SONY CAMCORDER! Thank you, and hope to hear from you soon on the School Safety Forum section under groups of the Students Speak Out page!

Brett, how do you think people living closer in unity would work? How would you make it work?

I did hear about that book during that week somewhat, I hear it provides you with a lot.
For me, I would like to make the biggest change in the environment, but allowing all people to live closer together or more in unity would be a good goal too. I think the public schools now are doing a good job educating a lot about some of those topics.

Yeah, well thank you! I see you are interesting in social justice work. I took an awesome class at Avalon during service week about it. I thought it was very interesting and I use a lot of what I learned about in not only my daily life, but this site too!

In the very upper left hand corner of the page there is an envelope icon. Click on it. I just sent the email again, so it should be in your inbox that is for Students Speak Out. I look forward to you starting your discussion in the forum.

Julie -- Hi! And welcome. Great answer!

Would you consider putting your discussion in the forum? To do this, you just place your same opinion in your blog.

I'd love to reply right away. I'm interested to hear from parents and students who have gone this route, and why they've done it. What about the education in private schools makes it better, in their opinion?

I can't really speak on behalf of all public school students but I do know that some parents take their children out of public schools because they feel that their children can get a better education at a private school.
